St. Magdalene of Canossa
Magdalene was born in Verona, in the palace of the Marquises of Canossa, on 1st March. Great future promises and also deep sufferings marked her childhood and adolescence “separation” from her father will be her cross and her school of life.
The death of her father, the Marquis of Canossa was a great loss for the young Magdalene, who became orphaned of the father figure at such a young age.
Magdalene was abandoned by her mother, Magdalene’s mother, Marques Teresa Canossa Szluha, remarried the Marquis Odoardo Zenetti of Mantua and left her five children at Canossa Palace. Magdalene and her sister Laura were entrusted by their uncle Gerolamo (brother of her father Ottavio) to the French governess Francesca Marianna Capron.Read more
St. Josephine Bakhita
Josephine Bakhita was born in the Daju village of Olgossa in Darfur. Her uncle was a tribal chief, and her family was relatively prosperous. Her life was forever altered when she was kidnapped from her family as a young child and enslaved by Arab slave traders, likely in early 1877. The terrified girl was bought and sold at least two times over the next few months and forced to walk hundreds of miles on foot to a slave market in El-Obeid in south-central Sudan. Over the next decade of enslavement, Josephine was passed from owner to owner, bought and sold so many times that she forgot her birth name. Venerable Fernanda Riva
Venerable Fernanda Riva, a member of the Canossian Sisters, also played a significant role in the congregation’s history. She dedicated her life to the education of young girls and was known for her deep spirituality and love for the Eucharist. Venerable Fernanda’s life exemplifies the Canossian commitment to education and evangelization, and her cause for beatification is currently under investigation.
The Charism
The charism of the Canossian Daughters of Charity is rooted in the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ crucified and in Mary, Mother of Charity at the foot of the Cross. They are called to make Jesus known and loved through humble, joyful, and self-giving service to the poorest and most vulnerable.

Pastoral Care of the Sick
As daughters of charity we are called to take care of the relationship of the soul and the merciful Fathers. Apart from giving boldly treatment we are encouraged to help the sick to be at peace with God in case they die they should go to meet the merciful Father in peace.
Formation of Laity
To promote the ”spread of the Glory of God”, we form
lay people called to dedicate themselves to apostolate
specially in the field of education catechesis and charitable works so that they may become guides and animators in the ecclesial community and in thesocity.

The Lay Canossian are call to live in the world,the charism and spirituality of the Canossian Daughters of Charity and the Sons of Charity. The Lay Canossa are men and women, single, married or widowed who strive to live their baptismal commitment with the spirit of Charity of the Geartest Love inspired by the charism of St. Magdalene of Canossa.
